I am thankful that I live in a part of the country with two growing seasons and plenty of wonderful year round fresh produce.
The few weeks of the year when nothing fresh is in top form, I am also thankful for all those brilliant inventors who perfected the art of refrigeration and in-home freezers.
Peas may not be seasonal right now for you, but somewhere they are – and they were flash frozen just for you.
If you have a hankering for blueberries and it is the dead of winter, go right ahead and buy frozen, but with one bit of warning.
Before tossing the frozen pack of green beans into your cart, pause, breathe, and read the label.
If the ingredient list contains nothing but plants – enjoy!
If you see anything else in the ingredients list, ask yourself if it is something you would cook with. If not, put the package back.
Better still buy the package with nothing added and season it yourself with herbs or a wonderful made by you sauce.
The Spoon Mage™ Sauces page is growing each week (she can only eat so fast and all recipes must pass her rigorous testing). This page will include sauces for main, sides, salads, and desserts.
Peace,
Janice
