1 lb fresh green beans or haricot verts
2 T butter, unsalted
1 t ground garlic
1/4 t ground cumin
1 pinch of turmeric (just a light sprinkle)
1/8 t ground black pepper
Salt to taste
Spoon Mage™ Note:
Not everyone is a fan of the still crispy green bean. If you like yours a little softer, do go right on ahead and cook them a minute or two longer. Mindful cooks prepare things to their own taste instead of thoughtlessly following the recipe.
This quick to fix side dish makes a beautiful presentation with just about any meal. Experiment with the seasonings. My family loves garlic. If yours does not, go right ahead and reduce or eliminate that seasoning. A good replacement for garlic would be ground onion powder. If you just love one of my favorite seasonings – turmeric – go ahead and increase the measurement up to 1/4 teaspoon. The pinch works perfectly for a background element. Turmeric is also fragrantly lovely in the foreground.
Green Bean Directions:
Steam the green beans until just crisp tender. This can be done in a steamer basket on the stove or, follow the directions in the microwaveable bag of fresh green beans. This will take about 7-9 minutes for green beans and about 5-7 minutes for haricot verts.
Seasoning Directions:
Place the butter in a large skillet and melt over medium high heat. Add all the seasonings and stir into the butter. Add the cooked green beans and toss to coat each bean with butter and seasoning. Sauté for two minutes, or until the beans are hot.
